Welby Ings is raising $250k for the feature film Punch.
Commitments sought by 31 December 2019.
While I haven’t personally invested in a film project previously once I met Welby and came to understand the story he wants to tell and saw some of his previous work I realised that this was a project I’d like to help see made. His passion for the story and the craft is blindingly obvious – his talent to create beautiful cinema with engaging characters and stories is very clear and evidenced by the extensive list of industry awards and recognition he has received.
I’ve spent some time researching and understanding the film investment space since then – and I believe that from a financial perspective this project has a very high probability of returning the investment with a premium of 20% and first recoupment before any other investor or involvement of key production team including the Director and writer. The blue-sky is the possibility of a profit share should it become wildly successful – other films such as Moonlight and Call Me by Your Name have broken out to achieve this, however, I believe this is a lower possibility. From a creative perspective, I personally believe that this is a rare opportunity to be involved in a potentially iconic kiwi film in New Zealand that bears all the hallmarks that may potentially that may have a global impact for little personal exposure and/or risk.
