Don't renege once you have given your investment commitment. It's bad form!
  • Mon 17:45  Lion Unleashed  Roadshow, The Icehouse, RSVP
  • Tue 4-6pm  ADI.Clinic Whangarei, convener Martin Knoche
  • Thu 4-6pm  ADI.Clinic Auckland, convener Rudi Bublitz
LOL Rudi and Charlie have failed to exchange FKA credit card details in time for renewing the ADI.Clinic domain. So it is temporarily unavailable, should be back up by the time you read this, or not.
  • Wherewolf Charlie and his DD team have wrestled with the wolf pack. The report is done and being reviewed by Paul Davidson who will, subject to his high standards, release it for the investment vote by LP2.
  • Moxion Unfortunately, not all soft commitments have firmed up
No counting your chickens  before they have hatched.
  • NexTransfer Yester was the first meeting of the new board, ambitiously running from 2-7pm. James, will this be our NextExit?

Tuesday's dinner was a hoot. Even the Chief Cat Herder could not stop the dancing on the tables after a great meal and good conversation.
StretchSense co-founder Iain Anderson liked it so much he wants to join.
In fact, it is two, Alan Luo had a baby boy. Congrats to four happy parents.
Back in 2013 Heath and Rudi mentored the winning team IMeasureU of the UoA Spark Competition, now Velocity. Rudi carried on working with Mark as part of the Callaghan Peer2Peer Advisory program that is sadly being discontinued. Anyway, not four years on and co-founders Mark and Thor exit to Vicon.
Awesome stuff! Read more about it, not in stuff.co.nz but ☞ here.
Now with two little ones, Heath could look a bit more tired?
FKAngel Charlie hangs out not just with wolf packs. Apparently, we have some ourselves ☞ see here. He also meets local entrepreneurs such as Alex Guichard who does cool stuff and raises his money overseas. Super promo video ☞ here.
Paul, Rudi and Tim W attended the SCIF 2.0 Briefing and were sworn to secrecy until formal approval has been given by Wellington. Looks like a new lease of life for a more proactive NZVIF with more discretion and an eye on diligence and capital strategy.
REMEMBER the roadshow for the Lion Unleashed Accelerator is next Monday 3 July, 17:45 @ The Icehouse. Bring your best founders and RSVP.
"There will be plenty of food and beverage sampling from Lion!"
UniServices and IP Group Australia invite FKAngels to celebrate the NZ launch of the $215M investment commitment for commercialisation of companies spun-out from the top universities in Australia and the University of Auckland.
Well done Will Charles and UniServices, our StretchSense co-investors!
FKAngels will join your launch party on 4 August, read more + RSVP ☞ here.
Now, this is what FKA teamwork is all about: Rudi writes a blog, NZSA ask him to give a talk, he cheekily suggest the blog topic and they are game. Then the CCH called to Australia and Josh steps in. Now FKAngels support Josh!
Register for the NZSA dinner, Tue 11 July @ Glengarry, Victory Park Market.
ADI.Clinic was this week in Auckland and Queenstown. The one punter booked for Queenstown cancelled in good time. So FKAngel Aden could stay in bed given the rain and temperatures down south.
Arron, Julian and Katheren had four bookings in the morning, only one showed up in the evening. Interestingly, this was all about growing grass but for once nothing to do with dairy cows.
It is unclear what exactly happened in this session as Katheren's notes were totally nebulous.

PHEW! It's been a few busy months: two new portfolio companies, transitioning from LP1 to LP2 and 3x due diligence still underway. No new pitch this month, so we can chill, mull and munch things over on Tuesday at a social dinner. All welcome: angels, partners, our founders and their staff.
We'll simply split the bill but need numbers to make a booking, alway a bit of a challenge with 10+ peeps. Our last dinner was in August in Cassia's private dining room. A fun night! We expect our YOUNG couple to shout a round of drinks, with Jackie's new job, Greg might go part time
If you're coming then flick Rudi an email with numbers.
FKAngel Jackie Young is the new CEO of the ecentre. Read all about it ☞ here. Congrats from 50+! That is the FKAngel count NOT the age of all other angels
SCIF 2.0 Briefing Oh no! Bridget had to change the venue after so many of the AFKAF readers have asked to attend. Mon, 26 June, 0900-1200, Novotel (Rimu Room), Ellerslie, Green Lane East, Auckland
All interested FKAngels are welcome but should RSVP by email to Rudi.
Applications are now open for the Sydney-based Lion Unleashed Accelerator powered by Slingshotters. They are looking for Kiwi startups too and it may make a lot of sense for some. So tell your startup connections about it and LIKE this ☞ LinkedIn post or COMMENT on it, alternatively by good ole word of mouth.
Chief sling shooter Karen Lawson is hosting a roadshow for the Lion Unleashed Accelerator in Auckland, 3 July, 17:45 @ The Icehouse. Please RSVP.
"There will be plenty of food and beverage sampling from Lion (bonus)!"
 Tell everyone about it!
This was the teaser pic for last November's 4x4 event which received a much strong level of response, last week's reaction was lacklustre. So here again...
Sharon offers "Would the FKA's like to book in for another flying lesson, only this time in another venue that I have created up at Bethells Beach - pretty amazing venue. This time, the angels could bring colleagues along as a way of me exposing our corporate fun days? Angels go free but colleagues are a chargeable baggage! I think a wood burner with lamb smoked with the perfect Destiny Bay Merlot would be a great mid-winter adventure."
Here is the deal: every FKAngel bringing two pieces of chargeable baggage 2x $390  is going free. Interested?  Rudi
ADI.Clinic this week was fully in cyberspace, angels dialling in from all over, Phil Southward from Germany @ 6 am local time, not Sleepless in Seatle but Sleepless in Munich.

Karl reports: A couple of no shows, otherwise interesting conversations.
Angels:
Katheren, Keith Patton (guest of Karl), Tim W, Phil, Hengjie (Kami CEO for Fishbole) & Karl.

REMINDER! Bridget Unsworth will give a briefing on SCIF 2.0 with subsequent Q+A. NZVIF now operate under a changed mandate with reduced funding levels but increased discretion. Mon, 26 June, 0900-1200, GridAKL
All interested FKAngels are welcome but should RSVP by email to Rudi.
What a team! Thank you for the cautionary notes for Tim G following last weeks Helium Beer piece. The video is very funny but was, of course, a hoax. Read more about the science here. The original video was released 1 April.
Warning: AFKAF has no strict temporal restrictions on April Fools' Day. We want sharp and critical angels.
November last year Sharon took FKAngels into Woodhill Forest for an amazing 4x4 experience. She reckons it's time to do it again.
"Would the FKA's like to book in for another flying lesson, only this time in another venue that I have created up at Bethells Beach - pretty amazing venue. This time, the angels could bring colleagues along as a way of me exposing our corporate fun days? Angels go free but colleagues are a chargeable baggage! I think a wood burner with lamb smoked with the perfect Destiny Bay Merlot would be a great mid-winter adventure."
Sharon took the StretchSense team to Bethells Beach recently. They loved it!
Here is the deal: every FKAngel bringing two pieces of chargeable baggage 2x $390  is going free. Interested?  Rudi
fWe ran ADI.Clinic this week on Monday in Wellington and Wanaka, then on Thursday in Auckland. Thank you to all the awesome angels who are helping every week. Founders really love ADI.Clinic

Ian reports from Wellington an early renting proposition with a great founder, Aaron already has a video. Charlie from Wanaka reports another three sessions with interesting people with different ideas, this month they were all early stage businesses in that transition stage between concept and business.  Rudi reports from Auckland another full house with six sessions, two of them extremely technical, another with an interesting young founder, referred by Datacom's Mark Loveys, in the influencer marketing space.
It was certainly a lot of fun for all the mentors!
Last night three FKAngels had a dinner after ADI.Clinic Katheren, Rudi and one other. Thank you Katheren, for this graphic memento recounting how one of the three mistook the salt bowl for parmesan with catastrophic consequences.

Remember, CCH is having an eye on everything that's going on or not at Flying Kiwi Angels.
Brian Karlson the CEO of NexTransfer so impressed James and Chris that they raced ahead with DD to have report and recommendation ready on pitch night, a first for FKA. James and Chris dug to the depth of their own pockets and with FKA closed the round at $1,000,000 this Wednesday only 15 days after our May pitch night. Another first for FKA!
Note: CCH is managing the startup waiting list for this awesome champion pair!
  • MyBitcoinSaver DD was stopped. Jesper says, too many uncertainties and open questions at this stage.
  • Wherewolf DD, Charlie reckons will be done before the end of June.
  • Moxion commitments stand at $660k, closing 30 June.
  • NexTransfer closed & full at $1,000,000.

The brains of this beer duo just immigrated to NZ. Tim.Gelston@fka.nz has teamed up with him and they are raising a 3xF round to scale the brewing tech from home to craft beer level.
Investment Director Bridget Unsworth wants to give a briefing on SCIF 2.0 with a subsequent Q+A. NZVIF now operate under a changed mandate with reduced funding levels but increased discretion. Mon, 26 June, 0900-1200, GridAKL
All interested FKAngels are welcome but should RSVP by email to Rudi.
Here the webinar recording and separately the slide deck. Well done Anne!
We had ADI.Clinic this week first in Whangarei and then in Auckland.

After too long a break, Katheren joined the ADI Team in Auckland again. She brought brains, brawn and some striking orange colour to the mix.  ☞ Orange was also Rudi's colour 25 years ago.
