FKA launched in May of 2014, 12 angels, 1 comical logo. James Hoseason volunteered to drum up sponsors but only after personally paying creative agency Toast to professionalise Rudi's logo sketch. Thank you, James!

KPMG promptly liked the improved logo in 2015 and has hosted our pitch nights ever since, rain or shine—bar Covid. Lojo and Potentia joined the ranks of our supporters soon after. In later years several startups also jumped in to give us and our portfolio companies a leg up. Thank you, all!

From 12 in 2014 to 72 active angels now, new joiners in 2021: Krishna Guda, Ewart MacLucas, Ashley Smout, David Eldor, Stephen Smith, Jeff Skidmore, Geoff Cossey, and Caro Williams.
From 2, StretchSense and Kami, to 32 portfolio companies now, new in 2021: XP42 - OneReg, Mindful Muslim, Happy Moose, Cerulean, Sea Logs, HazEL, Integration Fox, and AV Gaming Fund. 3 have folded leaving 29 active portfolio companies.
From $448k in 2014 to just over $4m invested (still investing) this year. We're also returning nearly $11m to 60 investors in 2021.

What a great finish to a challenging year! It is December and we welcome 2 new angels, Ewart and Krishna. We also note 3 exits but we cannot name them yet. Confidential! Two less than 1x, one more than 1x ?
After a stop for beers last week the Auckland ADI crew attended the last 5 sessions this year, having clocked up an impressive 180 sessions in 2021. The angels in Blenheim, Hamilton, Wanaka, Wellington and Whangarei have delivered 60 sessions in 2021.

Thank you to everyone who helped at ADI.Clinic

Flying Kiwis are the most playful angels in the country! The game is on with $500k+ from FKA going into the AV Gaming Fund. Covered in the NBR only yesterday, close is today. PDF + MP4 - FOMO?

Andy.Harwood@fka.nz can keep the door open till Monday

Some startup updates have to make you chuckle, like this one.

There is still uncertainty around our next steps, but we do have confidence that we won't need to liquidate. (Of course, all's fair in love and startups.)

For full disclosure, this came from a female founder

Truly Flying Kiwi Angel - Phil Southward. He is a very active angel and clearly also active when not investing. An active risk taker, see it here!
Another truly Flying Kiwi Angel - Chris Sattler. He can give you wings and you can give the joy of flight with these gift vouchers. Angels ar not the only ones who love a good deal, and Chris has one for you HERE
7 years after forming FKA in May 2014 the tide is shifting! Thank you, Nina, for acknowledging in your Enterprise Angels blog that the FKA model exists.

At FKA we believe that our no-fees model achieves better alignment of all stakeholders. We are 72 angels working together for better outcomes for all our founders and investors!

As long as we have curious angels there will be a cat herding challenge! Watch our cat herding video from 2015 if you have not seen it before or just watch it again ?

Playing is easier than investing in this space! The smart thing is to work with people with domain expertise like Chris and his crew. By pooling our FKA $$$, individuals can fly below the radar, below the fund's min investment level. Enough of the sales spiel!

Join us later today at 15:00 via this ZOOM LINK - if you're interested.

Interesting! AI beats Angels in this HBR article. Also, some reflections from Gwen Edwards HERE.
